Rev. Dr. Paul MacPherson was elected as District Superintendent of the Maine District in May 2022. Prior to his election, he served as Lead Pastor in churches on the Mid-Atlantic & Upstate NY Districts. As the son & grandson of Nazarene pastors (Rev. Dr. Neil MacPherson, & Rev. Walter MacPherson, Sr.), Dr. MacPherson has a deep love & appreciation for the Church of the Nazarene & its rich Wesleyan theological heritage. His passionate desire is to equip, empower & enable local congregations to faithfully engage in God’s mission within the local communities in which they have been strategically placed.

 

Dr. MacPherson & his wife, Theresa, were married in 1990 & are the proud parents of Seth (& his wife Katie), Zeke & Naomi. They also are beyond blessed as Mommom & Poppie to Nora Joy Leilagi & in the summer of 2023, Lopaki Neil! Dr. MacPherson & Theresa met at Melwood Church of the Nazarene in Maryland, the church in which Theresa grew up & where Dr. MacPherson’s father, Dr. Neil MacPherson was serving as pastor.  Theresa is a 4th generation Nazarene. Her great-grandfather (Rev. Sweeney) was a circuit pastor.  She is an alumnus of Olivet Nazarene University.

 

Dr. MacPherson received his Bachelor of Science degree from Mid-America Nazarene University (1988) & his Master of Divinity Degree from Nazarene Theological Seminary (1994). In 2022, Dr. MacPherson received his Doctor of Ministry Degree from Nazarene Theological Seminary. His dissertation was entitled, “Leadership Paradigm and Missional Faithfulness: An Examination of Adaptive Ecclesiastical Leadership.”
